A business logo uses the name of the company, letters and images to create an image easily recognized by potential customers. Take a look at logos on products, on company signs or through the stack of business cards in your files, and you will notice there are no definite rules when it comes to logo design. Try to keep it simple and easy to read or understand. Many desktop publishing software programs are available for Mac computers to help you design your own unique business logo.
1.Draw design samples for a logo with a pencil and paper. Include the company name and any image ideas you may have. For example, you may be an environmentally friendly company, so a tree, animal or globe are strong images to convey your company image.
2.Turn the Mac on and open your desktop publishing software. Paintbrush is the program found on most systems, though some people upgrade to Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.

Open a new file, setting parameters to meet your design needs in the opening pop up box. It is wise to start with a larger file than a smaller one because you can reduce an image without losing quality, but you will lose quality if you enlarge a smaller image. For logos used on small signs, create an image at least 15 inches by 15 inches with a 300 dpi resolution.
4.Select the font type tool and choose a font you want for the company name. Type the name in the area of the design you want it to sit.
5.Create a separate layer for any graphics you will add. Each graphic should have its own layer if possible in case you need to resize the image, change colors or move it within the logo. Add images from clip art, stock photo companies or using basic shape, and drawing tools available in the desktop publishing program.
6.Save the file as an editable file in the program, retaining all the layers. Also save the logo in a compressed file that meshes all layers for easier data transfer. File extensions .jpeg and .gif are common.
